Group work method
- Each group should consist of 7 to 10 participants.
- Time: 20 minutes.
- Task: Answer the questions below and then share and discuss the results of the work with all participants in no more than 5 minutes either as a group or through a nominated spokesperson.
Group 1: How can local communities be progressively transformed to be supportive of independent living and to become a realistic alternative to residential services? Identify three top priorities for action in this area, briefly outlining how each one would be tackled.
Group 2: What, in your opinion, are the real reasons why families prefer to place children with disabilities in residential institutions instead of keeping them at home like other family members who do not have disabilities? List three main reasons and propose one or more solutions to address each of them.
Group 3: Why do persons with intellectual and/or psychosocial disabilities represent the majority of persons placed in residential institutions? List three reasons and propose solutions to address each reason.
